Daily Routines

Our students spend on average more time at school than at home. It is therefore important to use the time at school in the best interests of our students. Positive school experiences at BMS include a heartfelt school culture, a dynamic and diverse school calendar, an interesting and stimulating school program, an engaging learning environment, and a team of teachers and educators who are passionate about teaching and learning. With these aspects in mind, we consistently develop our concepts with the feedback from students, parents, and colleagues.

An incredible resource for school life is our location in the center of Berlin, offering us a myriad of possibilities to extend learning beyond the classroom—from visiting the local swim club and ice-skating rink to participating in museum outings, art gallery visits, or theater and park excursions. Additional activities include our longstanding partnerships with institutions and experts in the fields of music, science, personal development, and sport. Our own school community is also a rich source of engagement for our students. BMS families from 70 different nations and staff from 18 international countries enrich our school life, bringing with them new ideas and perspectives which influence our school culture.

It is important for children of all ages to have reliable routines and to be actively integrated into the day’s schedule. With this goal in mind, we follow clear, simple structures in the Early Learning years to provide orientation to our youngest students. Our regular Kindergarten and Preschool hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and all learning activities, programs and excursions take place from 9:00 to 4:00 p.m. In order to be able to guarantee the reliability of the routine and also to implement our diverse program, we encourage our families to arrive between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. so that we can start punctually with all children attending the morning circle at 9:00 a.m. Between 9:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., all students work on their various projects and are ready for lunch to be served around noon. Students eat in their classrooms and then prepare their room for quiet time after lunch. This is followed by playtime, where our students can enjoy reading, arts and crafts and free play. At 3:00 p.m., it’s time for an afternoon snack. After their afternoon snack, students take part in the afternoon care program from 4:00p.m. to 6:00p.m., participating in activities in mixed aged groups
