Laura Beccherini, Learning Support Coordinator
“I am fortunate to be a part of a team at BMS where educational professionals are passionate about being lifelong learners and bettering their teaching practices continuously. It is inspiring to create and lead school-best practices with a team that is dedicated to providing an individualized learning experience to the “whole child.”
As the learning support coordinator in Primary School, my educational philosophy is centered on creating an inclusive school culture and establishing differentiated instruction in each classroom; where all student can achieve their potential. I aim to foster and encourage a growth-mindset in the classroom and my ethos centers around a strong belief that learner variability and diversity in the classroom enriches children’s learning and creates more well-rounded and compassionate citizens of the world. One of the characteristics that serves our student population so well is the acknowledgement of the education of the whole child at BMS and truly valuing their social-emotional development. These key areas provide a positive framework to support the strong family involvement and communication we have in our Primary School.
As a strong advocate for the development of executive functioning & metacognitive skills, I try and empower students to discover how they learn best and what type of learner they are—an essential skill for strong cognitive development. Fostering an appetite for curiosity and the diligent pursuit for understanding is something I try and establish for both students and teachers alike, as it creates a culture of learning that benefits everyone. Throughout my work as a learning consultant in Canada, I created these types of learning tools, providing best-practice, inclusive training for teachers and paraprofessionals.
